Plan Your Stay

Chiltern Retreat offers a variety of camping experiences to suit your preferences. Whether you seek a tranquil, secluded spot or a place where you can enjoy your morning coffee with stunning views of the Chiltern Hills, there's something for everyone here.

Park Field Camping

The Park Field spans approximately 8 acres in the charming Frieth Village, situated just above the picturesque Hambleden Valley.

This serene field offers stunning views and is adjacent to the village cricket pitch, enhancing its peaceful atmosphere, and a 10-15 minute walk from the local pub.

With plenty of room for pitching and group gatherings, the flat landscape makes it an ideal choice. Birdwatchers will delight in the abundant Red Kites that frequently soar above, making them easy to spot.

Park Facilities:

The facilities here are basic and include:

  • Three female toilets
  • Two male urinals and toilets
  • Several hand-washing basins
  • Two hot water washing-up sinks
  • Two drinking water taps located at both ends of the field
  • Three hot showers, with two offering an alfresco outdoor experience

If required, we can provide additional portable toilets.

Please note that there is no electricity in this field, so please bring torches for those late night visits to the facilities!

Woodland Camping

The pitches available in this part of the site are nestled within several acres of beautiful, unspoiled Chiltern woodland.

We offer a variety of options, including secluded grassy coves perfect for smaller families, couples, or individuals. For larger groups, we have spacious pitching areas where you can gather around the fire beneath the tree canopy with all your friends.

Each area is either under or surrounded by magnificent tree canopies, providing varying degrees of shade and shelter from the sun (or rain!). For those seeking a more remote camping experience, we also have ‘wild and rural’ areas located deeper in the woodland. These pitches sit on a natural floor of fallen leaves and soil, offering greater seclusion while still being within easy reach of the facilities.

Woodland and Broadfield Facilities

Refurbished in Summer 2024, the Woodland and Broadfield facilities are the most comfortable and comprehensive at Chiltern Retreat:

  • Female restrooms and hot showers
  • Male urinals, restrooms and hot showers
  • Numerous handwashing sinks
  • Washing-up area
  • A communal hut equipped with power points for charging devices like phones, as well as outlets for hair dryers and mattress inflators
  • Communal fridges and freezers (available on a first-come, first-served basis; we recommend bringing ice blocks and cool boxes just in case)

All water is safe for drinking, with an outdoor tap for filling large water containers.

Throughout the Covid Pandemic we offered all our guests the use of portable loos for exclusive hire. We will be continuing to offer this to large groups and weekend bookings for peace of mind for those wishing to avoid communal areas or for those not wishing to walk off their pitching areas to use the loo.

Broadfield Meadow Camping

This seven-acre field boasts breathtaking views of the Chiltern Hills and Hambleden Valley.

You’ll have plenty of space to spread out as a group while enjoying maximum privacy, as we carefully position groups to ensure distance from one another. The larger open space is perfect for setting up ball games, nets, and other sporting activities, making it an ideal spot for large family groups with children eager to play.

To enhance everyone’s experience, we typically separate family groups from adult groups, allowing all guests to enjoy peace and quiet.

Lower Court Farm Camping

This section of the farm features two adjacent fields separated by a hedgerow. The first field is a bowl-shaped landscape, surrounded by trees that provide a sense of seclusion—this is the camping field. The second field, next to our commercial let yard, remains empty to ensure you won’t have camping neighbours. If booked for an event or large gathering, this space can be utilised for additional activities.

Spanning 6 and 4 acres, these fields may not offer the views found in the Park or Broadfield meadows in Frieth, but they provide ample open space for setting up activities away from other camping groups.

Conveniently located just off the Marlow to Lane End road (B482), it’s easy for guests to find.

Lower Court facilities:

  • A kitchen, featuring two washing-up sinks, two under-counter fridges, an American-style fridge/freezer, and electric plugs for charging phones and other devices.
  • A bathroom block with four restrooms, two hot showers, and hand-washing basins for both men and women.
  • All of these facilities will be exclusively available for your group’s use.

Exclusive Hire

We can offer exclusive hire in select areas of our site, subject to availability and a minimum spend. While the standard campsite pricing structure (detailed below) applies to group bookings, it will also be subject to a minimum spend requirement. If the total number of tents or guests in your booking falls below this amount, the remaining balance will be due to meet the minimum spend. For exclusive hire requests and pricing, please contact us directly, as options may vary throughout the seasons.

Exclusive field hire includes full access to the field area and all listed facilities. This also covers vehicle parking in the fields and any additional gazebos or marquees you may set up. Each evening, you’ll receive a complimentary large box of logs for use with the communal fire pit.

If exclusive field hire isn’t available, we can offer half of the field to two separate bookings, allowing for shared use of the facilities.

It was one of the best camping sites we visited. Service couldn't be better. The site is so clean and looked after. Definitely would recommend it and will stay here again.Ps I believe kids' play area would make the site even better.

Lovely campsite and manager with a great choice of pitches in woodland and fields. Fire pits and wood supplied and shared fridges and freezers. All facilities including showers and toilets were modern and well-maintained. Definitely worth ordering pizzas on site. Perfect location with shops nearby and plenty of walks.
