Frequently Asked Questions

No, we do not have any camping equipment or tents for rental or sale on-site.

However, we do highly recommend a local business that is run by a lovely chap called Barrie Lynch. He can supply and erect bell tents or marquees and deliver other camping equipment directly to your chosen pitch before your arrival. You can visit his website here: http://www.rentbelltents.com

We have a number of local pubs in close proximity to the campsite.

Please visit our Plan Your Stay page for local recommendations.

Alternatively, Nikki, our campsite manager can offer further information when you arrive.

We ask that you extend the respect and courtesy that you provide us with during your stay, to all our local village pubs when you visit them. Please ensure children and dogs are under control and strict supervision at all times. We have had a few complaints made to us about large groups failing to follow these rules and would like to forewarn our customers ahead of their visit that they will be asked to leave the pub in the event of this happening.

No, we do not provide any electric hook ups on-site.

In the facilities blocks in the Woodland, Broadfield and at Lower Court Farm there are power points for charging phones and laptops etc. Unfortunately, The Park field has no electricity available. Please check your confirmation to see where you are booked in so you come prepared if you require some form of power.

There are no cooking facilities available. You are welcome to bring any small gas stoves or barbecues with you (empty gas canisters must be taken home after your stay with us).

Some campers bring their own grate to place over our fire pits, which you are welcome to do. The fire pits are approximately 2ft wide and are circular.

There are a few barbeques and grates that have been left by previous guests, however we are unable to guarantee this as it is on a first come first served basis and we are unable to reserve these items.

We do provide communal fridges and freezer in the facilities blocks in the Woodland, Broadfield and at Lower Court Farm. Unfortunately, The Park field has no refrigeration facilities available. Please check your confirmation to see where you are booked in so you come prepared with cool boxes etc if needed.

The above are all shared on a first come first serve basis so we request only your essentials are put in the fridge and the remainder in your own cool boxes etc so everyone can enjoy the use of them.

Yes, you may arrange for either a supermarket delivery or a takeaway to be delivered to the campsite. We request the person who arranges the delivery order, makes it clear to the food outlet which area of the campsite they are camping on (please refer to your confirmation email) to ensure drivers come to the right place. Please ensure you are there to meet the driver to collect your delivery, and ensure it is made very clear that you are on the campsite, so they do not try and deliver to neighbouring residents in the area.

Alternatively, if you fancy a takeaway on-site, you are welcome to use our local Indian restaurant Coco Masala in Lane End Village. They can deliver a variety of items and have an extensive menu. Here is the website for the menu: Coco Masala.

Also, we recommend a lovely chap called Barrie Lynch from Marlow Party Planners, who comes to the site regularly to cater for group bookings. He does pizzas, hog roasts, barbeques, salads & paellas. His website is MARLOW PARTY PLANNERS – HOME PAGE and his number is: 07767 347050

We welcome large group bookings and are happy to host a range of groups from DofE, school bookings or large friends and families having a reunion. Please let us know in your enquiry if you are a large group so that we can adequately accommodate you and place you on a suitable pitch.

We have strict noise restrictions in place from 10pm until 8am, this may be something to consider if you are looking to book. If any campers are asked repeatedly to reduce their noise levels, they may be asked to leave the campsite. You are more than welcome to stay up around the fire pit but we ask that noise is reduced to quiet talking, so as to ensure everyone enjoys their stay with us.

We do offer exclusive field hire for very large bookings and this may be a good option if it is more of a party booking that inevitably creates a nosier atmosphere.

We are happy to accept one-night bookings from Sunday though to Thursday.

We have a minimum 2-night booking policy at weekends and a 3-night booking policy over bank holiday weekends.

Please note you are welcome to stay for one night over a weekend if you wish, but you would still need to pay and book for the minimum 2/3 nights and we ask that you let us know which night(s) you will be on site for our safety recall sheets.

No, there is no WiFi on the campsite.

The nearest place to find WiFi would be in the cafe or pub in Frieth and Lane End Village or in numerous places in Marlow.

Inevitably, it can be a bit hit-and-miss as we are in a rural location. All networks do get some signal, but strength varies depending on which network you use and your exact location. We can’t provide an accurate answer on that one!! Sorry.

Yes, each booking/group will be provided with a round fire pit which is approximately 2ft wide and we supply all some complimentary logs.

During hot, dry heatwaves, there will be restrictions in place that we will have to implement in line with local fire safety guidelines.

Group bookings in the fields will be provided with one communal firepit rather than multiple pits – we do this for safety reasons and to minimise damage to the field with burn marks. Please feel free to bring a grate to use to cook over these, we do not provide grills or grates for these on-site.

We supply a complimentary amount of logs every evening that you are on site (approximately 2-3 hours of burning time).

Yes, this is no problem at all. If you let us know before or at the time of your ‘log delivery’ we can bring you some more. There will be an additional cost of either £10 / £15 / £20 (or any other specified amount) depending on the amount that you order.

We do not do extra deliveries after 6pm Monday – Saturday and the latest is 5pm on Sundays so please ensure you order enough if you wish to burn for a longer period of time.

There is a small ‘honesty shop’ in the facilities hut where we sell bags of ice and boxes of firelighters.

Yes, you can either park directly on your pitch or very close by, depending on which area of the campsite you are on.

All parking is free of charge, but all vehicles are parked entirely at the guest’s own risk. We do not accept liability for any loss or damage to any vehicle or property.

Yes, we welcome well-behaved dogs! Please bear in mind we are a working farm so we do insist on dogs being on a lead or under close control at all times. This is to ensure their safety and that of the livestock living on the farm.

We reserve the right to ask guests to remove any animal that is causing distress either to other campers, animals or livestock across the site.

No, access to the main farmyard itself is strictly prohibited due to health and safety. We are currently looking into incorporating visits to the farm in the future once we have the necessary measures in place that are required.

We only accept tents, small campervans and hammocks. No large motorhomes or caravans.

Guests may check in from 12.00pm onwards – we can check you in earlier by prior arrangement if requested and the pitch has been vacated from the night before.

Latest check in is 7.00pm Monday – Saturday and 6pm on Sundays.

We do ask that you let us know via text or phone call, when you are approximately 15 minutes away. This is so that a member of the Chiltern Retreat team can meet you at the check in area, and give you a brief tour of our facilities and then show you to your pitch. Once the first arrival of a group booking is checked in we are happy for the rest of the group to head straight to the pitch without needing to wait to meet us.

We ask that all guests have vacated their pitch by 11.00am.

Please leave your pitch litter free!

Yes, we accept Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) groups onsite.

Please note we may still be able to accommodate DofE groups whilst the site is closed for the winter. Please send us an enquiry and we can help with your booking request. We do offer a discount to DofE’s.

During the 2024 camping season, Barrie Lynch from Marlow Party Planners had catering on-site for campers in the mornings and evenings. We are planning on providing catering for the 2025 season as well.

We always have someone on-site, but accept no liability for any loss or damage to property or persons on site.

However, for large events and marquees left unattended overnight, we recommend Clint Brench: 07576 811 761 // sercureaset@gmail.com

We strictly adhere to all current Government guidelines.

You can read through our Covid 19 policy on the link below which will explain all our precautionary measures that have been put in place to ensure the safety of our customers and staff: Chiltern Retreat Coronavirus Policy

Reviews from our Visitors

All tents & campervans have a minimum spend of £30/night/unit. Please note we have a minimum 2-night booking policy at weekends and 3 nights on bank holiday weekends.

For example:

The minimum unit charge will apply to the following scenarios where the booking is less than £30:

  • 1 adult in a unit
  • 1 adult & 1 child in a unit
  • Up to 3 children in a unit

All our locations are ideal for the enjoyment of the countryside, for all ages.

We ask camping guests to ‘leave no trace’ and to be especially conscious of noise that could disturb the peace and tranquillity of fellow campers or the amazing wildlife found in and around the site.

We have a strict noise restriction in the evenings due to being in a village with residents on the same lanes or adjacent to the site. We ask that all campers respect this and keep all noise to a minimum after 10 pm.
